Our range of Gas Lifts for height-adjustable swivel chairs meets all height requirements, from office chairs to leg rest to workbenches and even tall sit-stand desk heights. The universal 50 mm diameter Morse Taper* fits most office chair bases, providing a solution for DIY replacement that meets chair manufacturer specifications.
These Gas Lifts are approved and certified by Furntech-AFRDI for strength and durability and meet DIN 4550 Class 3; 4 and all applicable ANSI/BIFMA, EN performance standards with a weight capacity rating of 150kg.
How to install the gas lift cylinder on your own?
Put the chair on an old towel or rag, then tip the chair onto its side. Spray WD40 or similar light lubricant into the areas where the gas lift inserts into the chair (under the seat pan and into the base); this will help loosen the gas lift. Use the rubber mallet to tap and remove the base of the chair away from the seat. Sharp taps diagonally opposite each time if the base is a bit tight. (The castors may fall off, so please be careful where you are standing)
Use a pipe wrench to clamp tightly onto the top of the cylinder. Twist and then pull away in while activating the gas lift in order to remove the cylinder. Remove the cap off the new cylinder, (Loose coloured cap normally only supplied on the 260mm and 270mm).
Replace any castors that have come loose and place the base on a flat surface (the floor). Insert the bottom of the cylinder into the centre of the chair base. Carefully position the chair top section over the top of the gas lift and lower it on.
Sit back on your chair and test.
