Office desks have undergone vast changes since the days of Charles Dickens and their work tops with wooden platform seats. The need for desk-top space itself has also changed with the advent of flat screens, compact keyboards and the reduction of paper filing. The computer stores such large quantities of information, and even the computer box itself is now part of the screen. All this means that the need for a large work-top space has been reduced. A typical standard working space may only require:
Monitor screen on an adjustable stand: 200mm deep
Copyholder angle adjusted: 280mm deep
Modern compact keyboard: 40mm deep
Keyboard wrist rest (optional): 80mm deep
Total depth: 700mm, say 800mm.
Desk width can vary considerably but from our experience over 35 years, we suggest an average can easily be 1600mm. Let’s say 1800mm to be generous. What a difference between the quite recent corner stations at 1800mm x 1800mm x 800mm.
SIT-STAND DESKS WITH ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT
Sit-stand work position is taking the work space by storm. The newest products to provide the adjustable work position are Desktop Risers. They come in a number of configurations with the latest technology available under the Oploft brand. (go to code 68PO8).
The raise-and-lower desk with manual operation has been around for more than 30 years, but the concept of sit-stand with these desks was restricted by the time and effort to alter the desk height. The early attempt at providing electric power to overcome the manual adjustment was only of minimal benefit as the motors were slow and the load factor on the motors was too low. Today we at last have an electric desk with the technology and load factors to make the sit-stand desk idea a revolution. Our Ritehite electric desk has a 140kg load factor and a speed adjustment that raises your desk to the desired position almost before you are in position yourself.
OOScare offers Ritehite in rectangle, L shape and even 120 degree (indent only) with tops made to your size in our New Zealand factory.
Equally interesting is the unique Retrofit innovation where OOScare can reduce the cost by using current desk tops. Retrofit saves cost and resources. Ask us about Retrofit and see if we can do it at your site.
Tables and cabinets suitable as platforms for ergonomic devices and even coffee are normally at desk height to provide that bit of extra space when required.
